Preparing for e-bay

When preparing cub parts for sale on e-bay, is it better to clean the parts and give them a coat of primer or just remove loose rust and not add primer. Generally, I believe that I would pay more if the part looked good (with primer) but I also realize that primer can be used to cover imperfections such as tiny cracks. For you who sell or buy on e-bay, do you recommend with primer or no primer. Thanks, Dan

I agree, ones that have been cleaned and primed, maybe even painted with a rattle can do bring better prices than "as found" parts. However, if you are selling something I want please do not clean it. I need to buy as cheeply as possible.

I try to clean dirt and grease off of parts, but in my opinion, sanding, priming and painting is not worth the time and cost involved. In other words, the price realized between an as found part and a part with a rattle can paint job is not worth the effort, and most people that are buying the parts are using them on something they are going to repaint/restore anyway, and I can about garrantee your paint job will not match what they want as far as color, paint type, etc.

I don't clean things any more than i have to to get numbers or such as to much oil or grease to ship.
There is a old saying if its fresh painted your selling it by the gallon or
tring to hide somthing.
It also depends some on what it is.
Metal glass i might claen up fair or well, cast no way unless it has a known weak spot.
If I get ask for more & better pics. then I will do what I need to.

I clean with a wire wheel or blast most small parts and put a coat of primer so they are cleaner to handle because a lot of parts that i have may stay on the shelf for several months waiting for a cub to buy. If I end up with a bunch of parts that i don't need they go on E-bay And once they are cleaned you better prime them or at the right temp. and hum. they will rust overnight.

Ralph does prime. I bought a square cpwl from him and it was primed. Nice too.
