What Colors to paint my cub?

Hi I'm Scott, I'm 15 and i go to an ag school. My magor is ag mech/diesel tech. For christmas my father bought me a 1948 Cub. I was very supprisied. I was woundering what the correct coloration was for the rims. I have seen aluminum outsides and red insides. Completly red.So I have no idea what color to paint the rims. The motor is in excelent condition. It is very fun. Thanks for the help

Scott, welcome aboard! The front rims are all red. The rear rims are silver and the centers are red.

Welcome Scott. Any thing you need to know about a cub some body here will know the answer. Big Dog proved it with a picture so you had no trouble seeing the answer.

Big Dog Knows! Yeah, I was just on Red-Power and saw a Cub a man restored and just had to pop his Balloon, he had a really sharp Cub, but, solid red rear wheels, just DON"T look right and isn't! Silver outside , red middle like Red Dog says. Good Luck and you will be very happy with your Cub. You can do almost anything with it. Love my 51! They get in your blood, at least did me, and I've always liked the little "H" John Deere, hope to get one someday just to listen to her Pop. But I will always own a Cub!

Hey Scott...WELCOME! Your Case/IH Dealer in your area can hook you up with the correct IH 2150 RED for the front wheels (and the rest of your Cub), and IH Aluminum for the rear wheel rims.

Be sure NOT to try to take off the rear wheel weights by yourself :roll:

...They are very heavy and too hard for one person to handle. :oops:

Also welcome to the world of Cub's and to the Cub Family - the best people you will ever know belong to this family:!: The guys here will do everything they can to help you restore your Cub.

Seems you got a great Dad there, try and have him involved in your restore. Don't forget to name your Cub -- think of a name that means a lot to you....

Now I know I am going to pay for this.....but..... I is gonna propose it anyways. Originally the rear rims were galvanized with 2159 centre discs.

We have a shop here that actually does hot dips for about $1.50/lb with a minimum charge of $60.00. Seeing as I have 4 sets of rims, it would be cost effective to have them galvanized. You might want to consider that option. A good learning experience and maybe a good possible class field trip your prof might be interested in.....

Am also considering have them powder coated. Any shop that deals in powder-coating tractor trailer rims will do the job. Price quoted was about $40.00 each. Not a bad price considering.

Just a couple of other thoughts.

Another helpful tip. If you haven't already, you may want to read this thread : New Members and Visitors, Please READ. There is tons of good info there that will help you in your restoration. Also the Cub Manual Server has lots of info, including the Owner's, Parts and Service Manuals. The Service Manuals which you can find under Blue Ribbon Service Manuals, might be of special interest to you. If you have a computer with an internet connection in your shop class, it would probably be a useful tool.

Scott, here's another idea:

I used spray cans from the hardware store--one was "tractor red" and the other was "aluminum". I painted the front wheels red and then masked them for the silver. The rear ones I did when I had them off. It's not supposed to be "correct", I know, but I think it dresses it up, particularly if you do the center hub and lug nuts silver...(your Dad is way cool!).

Keep us posted on the CUB and enjoy it to the fullest. She will give you
many hours of enjoyment. If there is anything you need just jump in
onto this board and ask. I can assure you that someone will have the
correct answer.

If you need parts you will find that most parts can be obtained from
your Case IH dealer. There are also some great links on this forum
to other sources for parts.
