It's Snowing!!!!

Postby ScottyG » Sun Dec 19, 2004 10:40 am

Well, I'm happy to say that it's been snowing since 7:00 this morning in Watkins Glen, NY. I can't wait to put my newly fabricated and refurbished grader blade to the test... but wait!!! I still don't have my left and right braces made :(

I think this unexpected snow storm will push me to bag the idea and just purchase them from TM Tractor. DonnyM, I'll finally be posting pics today of the parts I've made for the axle hanger assembly. Look for them in an hour or so.

Unexpected snow storm in the southern tier of New York during the last half of December???? Where does "unexpected" come from?

 good point Jim, although it has been unusually warm over the past few weeks. 40 and 50 degree weather since November. Looks like we're in for the typical deep freeze through season's end now 8) .

Yes, I believe the man upstairs has been allowing me enough time to finish my project. At least he's keeping the white stuff powdery

Just a little south of you on I 80 they just had a multi vehicle that bettered the route number. Over 80 cars and trucks. Have to keep your stuff together especially in wet snow. First one of the year is as bad as black ice.

If you want to order parts from TM, you'll have to wait for a few days. Last time I checked (yesterday), the website was closed for business until the 27th of Dec.

Hope the snow doesn't get too deep before then!

Jim,

The picture of Campus Ctr. Where is it? Sure looks like the Admin building where I went to college.

Scotty,

Do they still hold the Formula One races in Watkins Glenn? Back in the late 50's early 60's I went every year until I moved to Ca.

Alfred or, I was going to suggest either Ithaca College or Cornell. I work for the City of Ithaca but this building doesn't look very familar.

I've only been a Watkins Glen resident for about 3 1/2 years so I'm not sure of the immediate race event history. I do know that they are having IndyCar Racing at the Glen in September 2005 and they're touting it as a "return to the Glen". They usually have one or two Grand Prix style races with high output cars a year.

A little bit of trivia that floated my way last summer. I had heard that NASCAR may be pulling their contract in the next few years in lieu of a better suited race track. This would be a shame for the local folks as they just spent a few $million on upgrading the water and sewer system and other related facilities. Some of you NASCAR buffs can probably set the record straight on this one.

The webcam is where I went to school at Alfred University. It was the closest webcam to Watkins Glen that I knew of at the time I made the post. A little later I did find one at Waneta Lake.

Since it is dark as I am posting this, here are some pictures of the lake from about a year ago.

At the time of my first post, the webcam at Cornell had snow packed on the lens/window so you couldn't see anything.
