Transmission Bearings

I ordered a rear clutch shaft bearing and I got the part# from the parts manual. When it came in it is not the right bearing. I ordered IH part# 352402R91. The bearing is to big for the hole in the housing but it fits the shaft. Has anyone had this problem before? And does anyone have another part# I need to go by?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I think you ordered the right bearing if you want to go back stock but George has a better idea.

Yes. Been there, done that. The original bearing was a roller bearing running directly on the shaft... a poor design, since the shaft will wear. It's possible to make a substitute ball bearing work by very slightly reducing the diameter of the shaft, a good repair. I would do it with a tool post grinder in a lathe. Maybe that was already done to yours. Here's how you can tell. Mike the shaft where the bearing fits. If it has been modified it should measure .787". If that's the case you will want to use a New Departure 3L04 or SKF 6004. The O.D. will be the same. You'll be pleasantly surprised to learn it will not only be better but will cost much less than the IH roller bearing.

I would use a sealed bearing to also eliminate the possibility of lube failure the original was subject to if oriented incorrectly.

CubMan, I'm not sure what you mean when you say that the bearing you received is too big for the hole in the case. I just went through that about a month ago and had no problems, but now I'm concerned that I may have done something wrong.

I ordered & received the same bearing (it was a nice sealed bearing with inner & outer race). It fit the shaft fine, as yours did, but it was very slightly bigger than the case bore. The old (original) bearing had to be removed with a hammer & bearing driver, but it came out fine...I took that to mean that it was a pressed fit and the new one would have to be driven or pressed in place, which I did with no problems. I even had to do it TWICE (I forgot the shield the first time *blushing*), and it did the same both times.

How much bigger is the OD of your bearing than its case bore? Did I do something wrong to mine?

The Parts Catalog calls out 2 different bearings for 2 different versions of the transmission case. You didn't give your tractor serial number or housing part number. Depending on which you have, the whole deal on the bearings changes.

I don't know about CubMan's case, but my transmission case is 351530R2 (casting number 6-28-T), and the serial number is 114722 (engine number 116530). It should be the correct bearing.

How badly did I screw up?

Look at number 5 on the first one and 36 on the second one.
Am I right in thinking the older models had the better setup as George described and the later models 180614 up had the bearing that run on the shaft. the first one use's case 351 530 R1 thru 351 530 R5 w/serial# below 180613 and below.

I need the needle bearing instead of roller bearing.
I have casting#351 530 R6
Casting date of 1-25-A
Bet the roller bearing is better than needle bearing?
Do I still need to use the front and rear bearing shield #4 and #6 ?
