Hey guys these are not precission labratory instruments. They are only intended to show trends or relative values. Not 12.34765 amps..
Ain't they both pretty.

Neat-O! I need to get a pic of the gauge from my uncle's '49 Super A. It appears to be original, doesn't have the IH on the face. Seen a pic of one like it in the manuals but never "in person!"
I didn't realize that the old "IHC" gauges were still being used in '47. Guess they used them until they ran out.

Super A do you have the book on the combine? I am really looking for the part om the engine. I have a Buzz saw that uses an engone from what I think was a combine, could have been a bailer too. Is it possible to get a picture of the serial plate or a discription with numbers.
Thank You

Ron, your '48 ammeter is a little newer than the tractor. Part number 360053R92 is too high. 360xxxR part numbers don't seem to start showing up until 1954 or so. Since "R92" would be a later revision . . . Patent 2867768 was issued January 6, 1959. Interestingly enough, one of the main objects of the patent was to provide an ammeter with a good zero.

Jim,
Just curious, how the heck did you read that patent number? Are my eyes that bad?

Hey guys!
I checked my '47 No. 38008, and it was 3511X5R91, the same as your '47. I couldn't read the 1 number. I'm not a that agile. My '71 Cub Serial no. 238XXX, was part no. 378424R91. The ammeter on my '57 Cub was a SUNPRO. May not be original. Two things I'd like to know. One, how did you clean them up so well. And, two, what type of camera and lens did you use to take such great close-ups? My digital is old at 1 mega pixel, and I'm looking for one that has a higher resolution and can do close-ups. Thanks.

It seems that IH used several different suppliers. I believed this to be original but perhaps not...it still looks good
That looks like the gauge on my Uncle's '49 Super A. But for some reason I believe it is missing the IH emblem.......will have to go check for curiosity's sake.

Beaconlight,
Post the serial number on your buzz saw. I think I can decipher it with respect to if it's a combine engine or not.

When the Cub first came out, 2 ammeters were used interchangeably. They were 351145R91 (like mltiema's) and 42383D (similar to Donny M's).
Note that Donny's is 42383DA, meaning there was some change from the first version. Part 42383D had been in use several years before the Cub came out and no doubt had the IHC emblem on it. The change to DA may have been simply the change to the newer IH emblem. I have record of this part being revised as far as DC (2 more revs).
There were at least a half dozen other ammeters used on Cubs. A lot of the changes were probably in the graphics -- bigger numbers, no numbers, different symbols etc. Later ones probably had higher amperage ranges too.
