Planter side inboard dust and oil seal :(

Postby Chris Todd » Wed Dec 08, 2004 11:45 am

Hi All,
I am crawling along with my 55 rebuild and am in need of the oil seal on my right side, inside, axle oil retainer seal. I believe part # 382 220 R91. I can't find at NAPA, etc. Called Utica Case dealer......$91.00!!! They sell as single unit...retainer with seal. What have others done on final rebuilds? Afraid I would have to chance a leak for that price :( Any input is appreciated.

Chris, the cub FAQs list several cross references for that seal - Federal Mogul, Chicago Rawhide and National numbers are listed. Certainly NAPA or some parts dealer can get one of them. Check the link and scan down to the parts cross-reference chart.

Oil Seal

Postby Bill V in Md » Wed Dec 08, 2004 12:48 pm

Chris,

I just bought that oil seal at the local IH Dealer in Frederick, Md. Cost was $9.40. I think your Case Dealer must have mis-read the price or got confused on where the decimal point goes. If not, you can order one from the above dealer. They are very fast on shipments. Contact information is:

H. B. Duval Company
901 E. Patrick Street
Frederick, Md. 21701
301-662-1125

Just ask for someone in parts.

Oil Seal

Postby Chris Todd » Wed Dec 08, 2004 12:57 pm

That was Quick!:)
BDog.....Thanks!...I'll check the link you furnished. Local NAPA didn't seem to be able to cross the CR number as well as local machine shop.

Bill!....Do you have the exact IH number in your paperwork so I can ltell my dealer? Was not the usual older gal I have dealt with in the past (never any probs!) ...but a younger fellow...we all learn!
Thanks again guys!

Chris, the number you listed is the seal. 350 819 R11 is the retainer / seal assembly.

Oil Seal

Postby Bill V in Md » Wed Dec 08, 2004 4:43 pm

Chris,

Bigdog is correct. The number you referenced (382 220 R91) is for the seal only. That is the part that I bought from IH dealer for $9.40. I plan to re-use the retainer. However, if you need both the retainer and seal, Bigdog provided the PN for that assembly in his post. I do not know what IH wants for those, but you could call and ask.

Seal

Postby Chris Todd » Wed Dec 08, 2004 7:32 pm

Thanks guys. The retainer is in good shape and old seal removed nicely. I think I'll try the CR and National numbers again here local. I am sure I can find at least one of those cross numbers. Thanks again.

I got that seal from NAPA and they crossed it from the list BigDog posted. I got all the seals from that list from NAPA for my Cub. The store may not have it but they can get over night in most case's. Like I said go back and try another counter person. My counter man at NAPA has been there since 1956 and he comes by my shop replacing parts I have sold and I showed him the list on the computer printed it out and the next time he came by he had them. They have lots of other Cub parts. Even the screen and gasket in the sediment bowl. But if you go in asking for a Cub part they say no. Give them the part number. Don't say what its for.

Zanesville OH. We played there in 1948 with Mills Brothers Circus. I wonder if they are still in business. I was 15 and wanted to see the world. Got so far and needed more money so i went to work where ever I could get some.
