Farmall Cub

Hey Guys, I was just wondering how you tell if a Cub is Truly a Demo.? Is it on the serial tag? I'm wondering because there is one at an auction I might go to, and I dont want to over pay if its not a real demostrator.

The serial number's that are generally accepted to be in the possible demo range are just that. Cubs that were produced between #'s 99536 to 106511. Not all of them were true demonstrators. There is no indication on the serial number tag if it was a demo from what I have seen nor any other indicator aside from the colour, some decals possibly and that is about it. Probably the easiest way to tell if the Cub is actually a true demonstrator is to check for white paint in areas of the Cub that the dealer may not have repainted or where the top coat of red is chipping away. Areas that may possibly contain clues are under the hood, under the battery box, under the seat all kind of come to mind. Not likely that many dealers stripped a white Cub, probably just scuffed it a bit and then shot it red if they bothered at all.

I don't think that Demo's, CIrcle Cubs or any of the others really are worth a premium but that is JIMHO. Other's may/do feel differently. Whatever you pay for the Cub should you be the lucky bidder, don't go over whatever you feel you are comfortable with paying for any Cub.

I looked at the Cub on AuctionZip. It has recently been painted white, so there is probably no real way of knowing if it was originally white and then repainted red. As Rudi said, don't pay any more for that Cub than you would for one outside the demo serial number range. My 2 cents.

In my opinion a late model cub is worth more than a demo, a 79 is for sure . And a mush better tractor in most cases.

Boss, you sure love them long stripe cubs. Remember i sold you one, so when you are ready to sell your red demo, it comes here to retire.

Yeah, I got one of those "Red" Demos--serial no. fit, casting dates fit--no white paint anywhere. However, this was my cheapest Cub with some unusual extras.
New clutch, throwout bearing and bearing hanger, new radiator and fan unit (sealed bearing). Just finished a refurb. (seals etc) and she is a sweet tractor.
Left her in her working clothes and any parts needed for improvement were either new or good used I had laying around the shop/barn. The only interesting thing I noted, was lack of a mag. The Demo range '50s all had mags, but this one had a distributor right down to the orig mounting studs--even the paint looked orig. so, this one came with a dist or there was a complete dealer changeover early on. It has a nice working mag on it now. Pics when I get it finished

If I were closer, I'd be there. Equipment goes high down in that area, though.

There are several Cubs in that auction, including one with a 1000 loader.

I don't like the late Cubs, i would sooner have an old one . And is that a 1000 loader? I didnt think it looked correct.
