I'll have to go with the others on this for safety reasons. Considering you have an offset engine, should you go with a repair and it blows out, you could risk something serious here. Personally, I'd go ahead and replace the tire and just write it up to experience. It is much better to be safe than sorry.

Actually the beer comment convinced me that I was being too stingy.
In all seriousness, safety is my number one concern, especially with my 6 year old along for the ride. You and others are correct in suggesting that there should be no other option than a direct replacement.

Logevity is the objective. Safety in all things is how it is accomplished. Occasionally safety is to get bear before the bear gets you. Notwithstanding, Longevity is the objective.
