Magneto Cap restoration

Postby WJ » Sun Nov 21, 2004 4:34 pm

I have a magneto cap that is faded but in good shape. Any suggestions on how to get this back to shiney? Do I just paint it or seal it? All ideas welcome.

Thanks

Willis
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

I painted mine red when I painted the engine. I then found a new one on eBay cheap that will sit on the shelf until I feel like changing it and that might be never.
Then came Bronson

I just cleaned up one of mine yesterday. The caps are made out of bakelite, over time they will oxidize some. I wet sanded the cap with 400 paper to remove the brown oxidized material. While you're at it you can clean the contact too.

When its clean you can polish it with car polish.
I like Meguires yellow wax because it does not dry white. :D
