Item on eBay

Postby Jim Becker » Fri Nov 19, 2004 12:44 pm

Just looking on eBay and ran across a listing from the guy selling manuals on CD, this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61592&item=3853089341&rd=1

I thought the list of included manuals seemed oddly familiar. So I went over to Rudi's server and took a look. Not only the same versions of the manuals, but the same copies (same flaws/smudges). I suppose it is possible Rudi got some of this guys images, but was under the impression Rudi had gathered the manuals and added them one at a time. Would have been hard for Rudi to end up with copies of multiple manuals from this guys CD. Makes me think this guy downloaded all of Rudi's work to sell on his CDs. How does it look to any of the rest of you? Maybe some of you will identify some of your own scans in this guy's ads.

Right down to the grease spots on the manual covers! Perhaps someone should contact potential buyers and supply them with the website address...

Yes supply them with the website address...
Or list it for sale for 1 Cent like someone did the free gas cap offer. However I would like Rudi's page on a CD but would want to buy from Rudi.

Hope "fixsomething" isn't one of our members. That would be disappointing. Should keep an eye on this and contact bidders with BD's suggestion .................

Should we wait for someone who gave Rudi their copies, to post, just to be sure? (giving this guy the benefit of doubt)

Lombard from the ATIS board says the F4 mag manual is the one he sent Rudi. I don't think there's any doubt that the seller got his copies from Rudi's site.

In ask the seller a question I sent this.

"Lots of folks are watching this auction with some concerns since they recognize some of the smudges on the covers."

What do you guys think of this idea? Flood the potentiol seller with questions... possibly all worded identically. Here's the question I sent.

"Are these copies of the manuals licensed by the authors? Are there any copyright issues with using them?"

Wouldn't it be great for him to get many identical inquiries in the "ask seller a question" page?

With less than 2 days left on the auction, no one has taken the bait for the condensed CD version of Rudi's website.

As usual, buyer beware!

Check out his other items for auction. It looks like he's scanned a bunch of manuals to CD, mostly Ford, MF and Farmall.

I did some looking around on eBay for other sellers of manuals on CD, not specific to the Cub.

Evidently, this type of rip-off is not unusual. Here's a similar example - Gravely manuals are posted on http://gravelyinfo.com/taxonomy/page/or/56 much like what Rudi has done for the Cub. Alas, there are plenty of CD and hardcopy versions of these same manuals for sale on eBay. And folks are spending their hard earned $$ for them.

This guy seems to have something to hide.

I notice that he is keeping bidders id's private so they can't be contacted.

Look at the shipping $4.99. I'll bet he shipping in a simple mailer for .37 cents.
