Scrape the paint away down to the metal. The most important thing in a 6 volt system is a GOOD GROUND.
My 1 cents worth,

Well, here's what I have so far. Basically got everything back together from the tail end up to the instrument panel, with the exception of a few small details. It looks like it shouldn't be too hard to find some good wire lugs and #10 wire and ground my light switch and magneto switch to one of the battery box mounting hole on the torque tube. Then ground the battery in a similar fashion. Looks like I can pull it off and still have a stock appearance unless the correct police show up with their magnifying glasses! If it don't work I'll pull the instrument panel, scrape the paint off, and go the old fashioned way.....I just can't see removing all that paint and inviting more rust and corrosion!

It's actually starting to look like a tractor again!
