Replacing screws...

Postby SundaySailor » Mon Nov 01, 2004 1:33 pm

Rudi or anyone who knows...I painted my horizontal bar front grill this past weekend on my cub. (Does it ever look good. :D ) I used channel lock pliers to loosen the screws holding the grill in place. When I checked them closer, they didn't match very well at all. Now, I thought these side mount panels were called "dog-legs". But, when looking at the parts manual, I do not find references to dog-legs. I'd like to replace all those screws holding both the front grill in place as well as the side covers. May as well go ahead and replace all the screws for the gas tank down to the instrument cluster too. Does anyone have the proper screw sizes for each location so I can cross reference them and replace with stainless steel screws, and the number needed? Also want the right ones for the side panels going into lower two screws of the side panels. I hope I'm making sense here.

As always, thanks! Little by little this tractor is coming around.

They are listed in the TC-37F parts catalog in group 13 (on page 2) which is the superstruction. The panels are radiator side panels (items 18 & 19) If you look at the item descriptions, the associated hardware is listed with them including the quantity of each item needed.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

TM Tractor has the gas tank to dash screw. Maybe the other's also.

I'll print that page out and see what I can match up. My screws are in bad shape, hence the reason for having to use channel locks to get them screwed out some. But, you have to expect that stuff with an older tractor like this.

I'll try to look up the other screws - two top and two bottom on the side panels. The ones you posted are part of the ones I need to replace.

Rick This little tractor is going to look great eventually. :D

Rick:

I went to the hardware store and got stainless steel replacements. The TC-37F calls for 10-24x1/2" Slotted Round Head Machine Screws.

I personally prefer the Robertson style (square drive) so that is what I will be using to replace all those screws.

Also, the tank/dash screws/bolts I got from my local fastener wholesaler. Still pays to have friends in the business :!: :D

I think Donny had a good idea too - he used stainless steel screws and such in his restore of 49-1. Looks good.

Tom at TM tractor supply is going to have the other screws needed shipped to him. He will check them out, and if they match, they will be available on his website. Customer service on these tractors is really something else. Wish it could be that easy on a lot of other things. Thank you to all the tractor parts supply folks! You make refurbishing these old tractors so much easier, and a whole lot of fun.
