So how was your Saturday? A long story.

I'm thinking about changing my user name for this site to Eugene the *.?-!* Cub Owner.

Last Saturday I had the Cub out for a little ride. It was starving for fuel. Removed the carbuarator to reset the float level. Last Sunday I went back to the shop to install the carburator and smelled gasoline. Leaked out about 3 gallons of gasoline from the packing on the sediment bowl. Pulled the hood and gas tank. Purchased a new sediment bowl.

Today, Saturday, I replaced the hood/fuel tank. No fuel leaks. Started up the Cub. Ran great for 2 or 3 minutes. Clunk, clunk, clunk, something hit the edge of my shoe. I looked down to see the inspection hole cover from the bottom of the torque tube laying on the floor and a few parts.

The few parts were one and a half fingers from the pressure plate, a spring and a couple of finger piviot pins. Inspection of the fingers show crystalization and stress fractures. That was a new IH pressure plate, (made in India) disc, and throw out bearing. WAS a new  pressure plate made in India  , disc and throw out bearing  :x

There goes another 6-pack breaking the tractor in half again. :)

Practice makes perfect. How do you think I came up with my name. I tried using aftermakrket throwout bearings a few years ago. After 3 of them in 14 months I go smarter.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

What a bummer.

By the way, the original (at least early ones) had a back seating stem on the cut off valve. If they are not opened all the way, they will leak fuel past the stem. A lot (all?) of the new replacements use packing on the stem.
