Getting ready for winter

Postby Shopp'n Cubs » Fri Oct 29, 2004 8:39 am

Most likely I will NOT be using my cub this winter. I do have a blade, (very rough) but I think I am going to try and clean it up and paint it over the winter.

So what should I do to the cub for the cold MN winter storage?

Thanks
Guy

If your'e not going to be using it, drain the radiator and the gas. I use mine so in the winter so I run straight antifreeze, because without a water pump the water and the antifreeze will not mix completely.

You shouldn't use straight antifreeze. Mixes should normally be between 50 and 70% antifreeze. Mixes beyond 70% will have a higher freezing point. Check the label for the specific type you are using.

Premix the antifreeze and water in a bucket before dumping it into the tractor.

I think I have the anti freeze taken care of (about 50-50). I have used a gas additive. Anything else?

Guy:

Take the battery and store it someplace warm. If you leave it on the tractor, you will probably end up with a dead cell or two... Don't ask ok   , learned the hard way and it took more than one time

Also, make sure that the exhaust stack or muffler has a rain cap on it. If it does, find a way to close it up securely for the winter. If it doesn't, find yourself a nice little can - say from some canned peas or even tomato paste.

Then take some duct tape and secure the cap to the stack. You will be glad you did.

Again, don't ask ok :?:

Also, if you have a tarp - the Cub would be a good place to park the tarp  :!:

Anything I missed?

Reason I am thinkin on these lines is that I didn't have the time or the extra money to build an extension this year. That means Ellie gets to ride it out in a nice warm shop, and Granny gets to freeze her tooshie off outside covered up with a tarp.. poor thing :(

Rudi, Give Granny a snort out of her "Medicine" jug. She'll be warm and toasty all winter. :) :) :) :)

Come to think of it, I have room for a winter "boarder" Send Granny down here and I'll let her stay in the barn with Larry, Moe & Curly.

"So what should I do to the cub for the cold MN winter storage"?

Send the ole' cub to Mississippi. You never know what will happen to it. The last cub that was sent here returned home with a complete makeover.

Another good thing for storege is to run Fogging oil through it. This is used for Boat storege. It coats all the valve train and pistons and cylenders. I swear by it. I use the CD2 brand, but all are good and can be bought at most auto stores.
