'48 Cub Project: Need some paint code guidance

Postby F-I-T » Tue Oct 26, 2004 4:32 pm

I bought the first quart of paint for the cub. I like to use automotive acrylic enamel, and PPG is my first choice.

I found on the web, here and there, two codes for Farmall Red: 70019 and 71310. The 70019 is said to be for Pre-'49 models, and the 71310 for all those after. Since mine is a '48, I bought a quart of 70019.

I sprayed a bit of the 70019 on some parts yesterday, and I'll wait until I get home this weekend to review the parts, but....while it is red, it looks pretty dark red. Not being a traditional IHC guy, I thought I'd ask. A few folks who talked about the 71310 say it is a bit orange, but I thought I'd ask here for some IMHO's.

Thanks in advance!

Frank, I painted piece by piece with IH /case and painted the hood with Dupont #7410(American Lafrance) fire engine (at least that what it said on the quart can) match perfectly.Sometimes the pigment will change with can to can and how much you stir and shake the can.Just my two cents.I know I painted my friends IH 300 utility parts some of them just don't match up great.Something to think about ,if any of you out there want to do piece by piece.

RedNed,

The Dupont 7410 is what is being used on my Super A. What did you use for the rims on your cub? I want to use a dupont 2K product, like the 7410, on them as well.

Al, Rear rims (silver) Tempo aircraft paint from a rattle can. Front rims Case/IH. I used 3m no -slip fabric on floor board. Works great it really beats smacking your knee when it gets wet. I am looking for a Super A as my next project. The ones i've seen are pretty beat. I read somewhere a super A is a cub on steroids. I thought that was pretty funny.

Thanks for the info. Maybe we can find a cross reference to the caseIH red.

Hope you find a nice Super A. Mine has needed a lot of work but it was my Grandfather's since it was new. Never left the family. It's not much bigger, but a good Super A is way, way, WAY more tractor than a Cub.
