Need Your Recommendation

Postby Kirk » Tue Oct 05, 2004 6:33 am

To All,

I'm looking for the best source to purchase an IH carburator rebuid kit and a set of good solid-core sparkplug wires.

Just FYI, when I called my closetest IH dealer (about an hour away) regarding the carb kit, he said he couldn't sell me a kit unless I told what type of "floatl" was in my carb?? Different floats were used?

Thanks for your advice.
Kirk

Kirk. You can try Carter & Gruenewald in Wisconsin, http://www.cngco.com/oem.html . Get P/N 354454R92 for the carb kit. Any good automotive supply should have good solid core wire if you want to build your own plug wires. Hope this helps.....

Kirk,

Parts counter guys are not all created equal, some are better than others. The only reason I could think of for asking about the float for a Cub is to determine if you have a Zenith or IH carb. But the float is NOT included with the rebuild kit and CaseIH no longer stocks the IH float. It is an aftermarket item still available thru assorted vendors.

You can still get universal solid core wires from NAPA, cut them to size and add the contacts and boots yourself. I've also seen Cub ignition wire sets at shows and advertized in Red Power Magazine already made up for $15-$30 per set - so shop around.

Good luck!

Carl

Kirk...don't be fooled by buying an "economy" carb kit either. Get the real kit (354454R92) from IH. The only info the parts person will need to get you the right kit is the engine serial number AND if the carb is an IH (its cast into the side) or a Zenith.

It has timed out on the for sale/wanted list, but one of the members had purchased several surplus kits for the Ih carb and was selling them for $24 each. I bought one, and it is the full IH carb rebuild kit. Maybe he will post again.

All the kits are now sold

I have the NOS Carb kits that john talked about. The price is $25 plus shipping. These are IH kits in Dresser industries (They bought the IH Industrial Line) bags. The part number of the kit is 354454R92. I have quite a few of these available..

Thanks to you all and sorry for my late reply. (We are still dealing with hurricane issues here.....and "dial-up" is one of them)

I thought that there was only 2 carb kits, that is, Zenith or IH. I was a little peaved at the parts guy when I finally got off the phone with him. So thanks for re-confirming this for me.

I will do some research and buy only an IH brand kit for my IH carb. Then off to NAPA for the plug wires.

Many Thx gentlemen
Kirk

Kirk:

While you are at your CaseIH Dealer for the the Carb Kit, you may as well get the plug wire kit and plugs there as well. I know my dealer stocks them. Might be a few pennies more on the plugs, but it is worth saving the trip to NAPA. Also, the plug wires that CaseIH sells are the right ones for the Cub, so no hassles there and they are the same price if not cheaper than NAPA.
