Farmall Cub

I'm rebuilding tc block on my '52
the internal parts are different (picture)than the help topic and parts/service manual
there was 3/8" sludge in the bottom of the res I'd like to completely disassemble if possible
there is a 1" dia slotted "fitting"(picture) holding a spring loaded ball
fitting visible when head is removed
is this removable???
does anyone have parts pictures / tips for reassembly

Yes that item comes out. I watched a rebuild at La cub fest there is a special tool for that but they did not have one. I did not see it taken out so I don't know what they used.

You can get a 15/16" drag link socket from Sears, etc. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1260 ... ink+socket It will need to be thinned a little to fit the slot. You can take a piece of flat stock about 1" x 4" x 1/8" and grind it to fit the slot. While pushing in on it with a balled up rag, turn it with a crescent wrench. The drag link socket is easier but more expensive. There is also a "how to" that shows how to grind down a socket to be used in the same manner.

Jason that is a screw in seat. The one we did at the La Fest the push in seat. You will need a screw drivwer type affair to remove it. Russ Leggett had one that works and there are a couple pictures somewhere on the forum of one someone else fashioned from a socket . lookls like a spanner driver. Maybe the forum member formerly known as "RJMAC" can add to this.

It is not necessary to remove it and still have a very good rebuild. I'd pass on going in that far. I have on only one of my five successful procedures.

True , if you can ensure the spring and ball are moving freely and there is no crud trapped inside. My opinion is , I personally will remove the seat since I am going that far. Good luck

I'm contemplating making a "screwdriver tool" to take it out
is it a regular right hand thread
the ball seems to move freely however with the amount of crud
found in the rest of the block I wonder what's behind the plug . ..

When I was visiting Dale in Debert about a month or so ago, we were talking about the Hydraulic Rebuilds and the stuff needed to do it. He had just finished rebuilding Gord's Touch Control Reservoir that was Cub Expressed from Dan's down in Arkansas to CubFest Northeast NB 2009.. and there were a couple tools he mentioned to me that would be useful. One of them was a Snap-On A17 Drag Link socket

Took me a couple shots, but I managed to acquire one for my own toolbox.

I'm really inspired by the tool pictured made from the socket
(I like to make tools )
so much so I'm gonna locate a socket & go to town on the surface grinder
fit one up to the block/ insert & give it a healthy grunt .. and ope for the best
I'll post what I end up with for a tool and my results

I found an old socket, went to work on the surface grinder
ended up with the pictured tool slipped it in, a quick twist
and the plug broke loose
with a little bit of coaxing - gentle prying with a small screwdriver while rotating
it worked it's way out

by the way there is an o-ring on the screw in plug
