from the picture I can see that the seal needs to go in further.I beleive the measurement from the surface where the distributer bolts on is 13/16 to the seal when installed correctly. Check in the service manuel, to be sure, it gives a measurement .

Clark, the manual says 23 / 32 inch inside, I bumped it another 1/8th in, but do not dare go in further as idler gear in front cover gets up and close to the seal edge. thanks,Jim

What is the number of the IH seal? - My dealer can not find it. I have a 184 - is it the same?

It is the same. The IH number and a National cross are listed in the ATIS Cub FAQ as the line item:
Seal, Magneto Drive; 251379R91; National 450313.

You will find other parts listed that will be helpful later on.
