Brakes squeeling

Postby jmont54 » Thu Sep 23, 2004 12:37 pm

Hello:
Have a Y&W IH cub. Left rear brake squeels. Have taken the final drive off pulled linner and inspected and cleaned. Believe these are original. Have good distance from pad to rivets. I cleaned the hubs and shined them with steel wool, but still squeels.

Do all Cubs squeel and if not any suggestions!!

My right rear brake screeches. It's the only one that works right now.

I think it's the nature of the beast.

Could you have grease or oil on the brake shoe????
A little white lub or graphite on the metal parts where they meet may help also. Billl

did you wire brush the brake band? there might be imbedded rust / metal or the band is glazed over causing the squeak.

i'm assuming that the drum is secured and the woodruff key is in place.

Appreciate the replies.
No I did not wire brush the band. The Bands had small pieces of what appeared to be Brass colored particles. I just assumed this was the way they were made.
I hate to take it apart again in that my cub has a peach of a paint job and would rather not tear back into the final drive if at all possible.
Will try the white lube.

Try this take it out on the road and ride that brake for a little ways.
Enough to get it hot then let it cool down .
Have done this to 2 A tractors to stop squeals in the brakes.
If it's been broken I did it.
If its not broken wait till I touch it.

Go to your nearest auto supply store and get a spray can of brake cleaner and spray some in there. There is also a product available in a tube that is used on disc brake pads for squeeling. It should work too.
