Rudi: Float adjustment? Tried the screws, but didn't help. I just rebuilt the carb, to the best of my ability, but am wondering if the float level is wrong. Sure would hate to break down the carb again, but will do it if I have to.

Joey:

Will try to explain as best as I can. Use the carb pic below as a reference. Image It is the Throttle Idle Screw (Part # 2 & 3 - although the screw itself is not shown) that needs adjustment. This is what controls the idle. But to be sure, start at the Idle Adjusting Screw (part #22) This screw should be turned clockwise until it seats, then back it off 1-1/2 turns.

Once this is done, I usually either back off or turn in the Throttle Idle Screw until the carb just about chokes and dies. Then reverse the procesw until it sounds smooth and not to fast. The rpm should be between 400 and 600 rpm, depending on where you Cub likes it. You will be able to tell just by sound when that occurs, cause it will purr like a kitten. I se a dwell/tach meter to set the rpm, then I tune for the sweet spot.

That should do it.... yust me dos centavos mi amigo :)

Btw, the procedure is in the GSS-1411, which is on the server.

In this parts sketch part 7 the gasket does not show a half moon cut out that is in the gasket. The microfich that my local Case dealer uses doesn't show it either.

Bill:

I would imagine that is because it may have been a change in the gasket since the manual was printed..??? Also, the drawing may just be representative and not exact.

The sketch Rudi posted is for an IH carb. I think the Zenith may have the half moon cut out. Is your float a songle unit like in the diagram or a double float? Double float would be Zenth carb.

The gasket pictured in the P/M Rudi posted is incorrect :!: The picture of the gasket in the TC-37F manual is also incorrect :!: The gasket should have the half moon cut out.

I could post a picture of a used gasket if anyone needs it 8)

Joey:

Sorry, forgot about the Zenith. I do not have one, so I rarely think of it. Here is the jpeg on the Zenith:

Just in case yours is not an IH.

Rudi,

I bought the IH rebuild kit. I'll take off the carb this weekend and measure the float height (?). Will report back when this is done - will also be working on other little items like wiring and fuel line. Wish me luck.

Joey:

Do you have the clear tube setup for checking the float level? If not, I will take a pic tonight and post it ok? I will include the measurements. Was going to do that anyways.
