thinning 2150 red

I've tinkered with tractors nearly all my life, but have never done much painting. What should I use to thin the Case/IH 2150 red paint? will mineral spirits or naptha work?

I don!t think I would use naptha it is too volitile and evaporates too fast.I would get thinners from where you got the paint and some people use a hardener as well. Not sure of porportions. A spark of any kind will ignite naptha.

CaseIH Irongard 2150 Red is compatible with Dupont Centari products. I have been using the Centari hardner (catalyst) along with the Centari reducer to thin the paint. I have been told, but not tried it that regular lacquer thinner will work, I just prefer to use the reducer.

John, I would go back to the Case IH dealer and get their brand of thinner. In my experience this just seems to work better. Of course that was before hardener came on the scene. They say that you can use hardener in it.

Get the Case/IH IronGuard thinner/reducer. Use a 8:2:1 ratio...8 parts paint, 2 parts thinner, 1 part hardener. These ratios were prescribed to me by the folks that sold me the hardener I used when I painted Missy.

John,Cub-Bud"s got it right but depending on shop conditions ,weather ,temp. and all that nonsense.....Shoot and get lucky.As far as lacquar thinners,work just fine,as long its compatable to arcrilic.I personally like the 1/2 method half paint and half thinners and throw some hardner in it . It comes out yucky, sand it and do it again

Naptha has a habit of making 2150 like jello.I used toulene to thin it and that came out of the gun like i just painted a sunkist orange.( texture ). i did not try mineral spirits because that is oily by nature. Hope this helps !

I painted mine with the 2150 and used IH reducer and a Napa hardener. It came out great. The paint mix was 8 parts paint, 4 parts reducer and 1 part hardener. My Ford industrial 2000 now has a rouge red bucket. That's what I practiced on! Painted it two yeras ago and it seems to be holding up fine.
