Hand crank feature(s)...
Am I mistaken, or is the press pin on the end of the hand crank supposed to be tangential to the major axis of the hand crank?
Put another way, if you store the hand crank in the floorboard clips, does one end of the little press pin go down through a hole in the floor, or does the press pin lay horizontal to the floor?
The reason I ask is that Lombard's sketch, shown on Rudi's server, shows the pin being tangential to the axis. The one I just bought off eBay from fastenerspecialist is 90-degrees off, or horizontal to the floor...

Allen, the pin in your crank is incorrect. The original was tangential to the crank and yes, it was stored in the hole in the floor pan.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

This subject brings up something I would have never thought of. I didn`t even realize there was a hole in the floor pan for the pin.
Allenlook must have outbid me for that crank cause every week I put a bid in for a fastenerspecialist
crank. I just received another "Outbid" notice this morning. I dont really need a crank other than mostly show so I just keep making fastenerspecialist
mo-money. I made a crank out of a long bolt for adjusting the valves the other day.

Good one!
Hey Jim,
Good one D
We recently had a guy arrested here at the airport... He was a high school algebra teacher and they pulled him off the plane because he was carrying a protractor.
I guess since 9/11 the airport security people are really cautious about people carrying weapons of math instruction.

Not sure why you are trying to buy one off of eBay. David stocks the one my buddy made up for me. I know they have a few left.

Rudi, I asked or mentioned about davids cranks in a post a while back and never got an answer. As luck would have it I got to this post to late. The seller on eBay gave me a second chance on the bid I just lost on and sold me one for $21.00 to be shipped (UPS) tomorrow.

Re: Hand crank feature(s)...
Allen, while the crank you mentioned would be ok for turning the engine to crank it, it will be difficult to use it to start it. With the pin crossways (normal) you get the compression stroke at the beginning of the upward pull. With one installed as your is the compression stroke will be starting with the crank half way up and will be going back down when you get to the point where it fires.allenlook wrote:Put another way, if you store the hand crank in the floorboard clips, does one end of the little press pin go down through a hole in the floor, or does the press pin lay horizontal to the floor?
If you are not part of the solution,

Worth a try...
Well, I guess I will have to try once I get the Cub back together. I hope to never need it anyway, but if I do, then of course I'll want it to work right.
I notice in the manual the proper technique for hand crank starting, from what appears to be the 9:00 position pulling upward. From experience last week working all afternoon with a 49 with no electric start, we put the crank in just about any position and it fired right up...
