HELP! 1966 CUB paint question

Postby chrisbz9 » Tue Aug 24, 2004 11:09 am

Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of restoring my 1966 Cub, and I need to know where to buy paint. Both the off white & Yellow. I found that Rustoleum sells an off white for the International Harvester. How about the yellow. I know everyone says look at the paint code experts from Wisconsin? But I do not get the answer I am looking for. Please help with a color selection from Rustoleum or the paint code.

Thanks
Chris

I believe the name of the yellow is Federal Yellow, I don't have the number but your IH dealer probably has it.

Here is a link to the Paint chart on Rudi's site/;
http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Paint,%20Decals%20&%20Other%20Finish%20Questions/Farmall%20Paint%20Chart%20-%2001.htm

The white is IH 901 or PPG 8665
the yellow is IH federal yellow or PPG 81518 Maybe you can cross reference these numbers.

1966 paint

Postby chrisbz9 » Wed Aug 25, 2004 6:11 am

Hello Folks,

Thanks for the information, I am trying to cross reference the color.
Does anyone know if the lights on a 1966 cub were originally white or off white (IH #901)?
Also where is the best place to purchase a muffler pipe between the manifold & the muffler? This one goes under or to the back of the tractor.

Thanks again
Chris

I think all your questions are aswered above, but I wll throw in my 2 cents.
Someone gave me the Cub Cadet page that listed cross references on paint. http://www.ihcubcadet.com/cubpaint.htm The 'Ditzler' listing is PPG and I was able to get a local auto paint supplier to mix it up for me (at $40 a quart!).

Someone told me that Rustoleum 'construction helmet yellow' is a very good match in spray paint. I have not found a good match for the white in a spray just yet.

The lights are white.

If you have a cub cadet dealer close you can get the right stuff from them
I think it was about $20.00 a quart.
