If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
My wife says I don't listen to her. - - - - - - - - Or something like that!

If like me you are used to doing general and automotive electronics (- ground) and then went to telephone equipment (+ ground) you get used to hot meaning which ever lead was not tied to the common ground, whether it was + or -. Then to complicate things you also work with EIA color code (resisters and capacitors as well as some equipment wiring), dc wiring color codes, ac wiring color codes, and cable color codes. But what really blew my mind was when I discovered the dc lighting in my old travel trailer was wired with ac color codes.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Color codes
So John, being an "old telephone guy" did you rewire the Cub with orange, slate, and white-with-blue-stripe wiring?

I'm am/was, a c.o. man, everything is red/white.
3 Dr.s were talking at a medical conference, when they realized they were all company Dr.s for phone companies. #1 says I hate to do surgery, but it's fairly easy on I&R men, they're color coded. #2 says c.o. men are easier, when you open them up not only are they color coded, but there is a wiring diagram included. #3 says you're both wrong, supervisors are the easiest. They only have 2 working parts, a mouth and an a**hole, and they're interchangeable.
