Need help

Postby Bob Roraback » Fri Aug 06, 2004 4:16 pm

Hi Guys, I need to make a decision as to whether or not to invest any money in this sickle bar mower that I have, I think it is a # 22 mower.
There is an awful lot of play between the pittman straos and the ball that they clamp around, so much that the whole tractor shakes when mowing at high RPM. I am thinking about ordering new straps and the head part MA 139. Does anybody have any advice or any experience in rebuilding the sickle bar mower to a working state? Thanks for help, Bob Roraback

Bob, those type mowers will vibrate at high rpm, no matter what. The sickle bar is a lot of weight to shove back and forth at the speed that one moves. Also depending on which speed your tractor govenor is set at, you may need a different pulley. there were 2 different ones depending on maximum engine rpm. Alos I assume you know that the flat strap on top of the pitman at the sickle hinges over and locks down against the rod to lock the straps against the sickle bar. I know to many that were raised around the sickle mowers that may sound like a dumb question, but I have come across people that didn't know that and were trying to mow with out locking it.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
