Touch Control Success !

Postby EZ » Mon Aug 02, 2004 7:36 am

Thanks DonnyM, John*%#*,

I was able to remove that yoke nut with no problem.
My rebuild was a complete success. 13 ring seals and 2 gaskets later, everything is back together. I did use Hytran to lubricate the seals during the install, BUT, the manual does say to use a quality "cup grease" on them to provide initial lubrication required before the Hytran starts to flow through the system. This block will now sit for who knows how long before it is put back on the tractor, as I am miles away from being done, but this really is one of the "biggies" completed and gets me that much closer to having this little beauty back together.

For those who may have doubts about tackling a rebuild on the touch control: Just Do It !

Once you start removing that first head bolt, you won't be able to stop. Make yourself a clean area to work after you have it opened up. You should always have your manual beside you following every step. It is also good to use a couple small containers labelled with the names of the check valve, safety valve, etc..........This way there is no chance of getting things mixed up. The manual shows very good pictures of the parts so that is a help also. I feel like I'm ready to turn Pro, so the rest of you should have no problem.

Have a nice day.

Rudi,

Sorry, no pics.
I agree it would be nice, but no digital here. I'm thinking though, it would be a good idea to rip one open at a Cub-r-rama. Everyone there could get a good hands on, as well as pics being took. Or not.

Donny..don't feel bad, this is the first work I've done since maybe April.

Jamie said they are looking for someone willing to put on demonstrations/clinics at Cubarama.
If you are not part of the solution,

John,

If I wasn't so dern far away I wouldn't mind checking out a Cubarama, I'll have to wait 'til my kids are off to University and sneak out to one. Besides, us shadetree mechanics wouldn't want to lead anyone astray on best practices.
