Shifter fork/rail installation

Postby hitman » Wed Jul 07, 2004 6:44 pm

I am replacing the bearings in the transmission. When I reassemble everything, how do I put the shifter forks on? Are the supposed to have a specific gear on each fork?

Also, I noticed on the shifter rails there are several notches on it. What are these for? How do I orientate the rails so they are properly installed? Right now I just have them pressed all the way forward. Thanks for you rhelp. The manual is not clear on this.

Those shifter rail notches I believe catch the poppet ball that is spring loaded underneath the rail guides. I agree that the manual isn't clear on the R&R of those things. I believe it does have an exploded view that shows where the forks ride on the splines. Check Rudi's site for the manual. I wish I would have taken some pics when I had my trans. apart.
