Planning engine overhaul

Postby Ron » Tue Jun 01, 2004 8:12 pm

Hi All,

In a couple of weeks I'm going to tear the Cub down and overhaul the engine.
In addition I want to replace the clutch assmy and replace all the gaskets and seals in the body of the tractor. It seems to leak diff fluid into the drain beneath the clutch. The axel shaft seals also need replacing.

The question I have is there an easy way to go about ordering all the gaskets and seals I will need. The engine and clutch stuff is pretty easy as you can order it as a kit.
Is there such a kit for the rest of what I will need.

Thanks in advance!!

Ron, Contact Ken Updike at Carter & Gruenewald ( http://www.cngco.com ) He should be able to fix you up with a gasket set for an overhaul.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Ron,

I am glad to see that you are, in my opinion, going about your re-build the
correct way. By this I mean, replace anything that seals, slids, or rolls.

I took my parts book and a yellow hi-liter and lined all the seals, bearings, and bushings that I would need. The benefit is you will have a
record of what was replaced. You can also keep up with the cost this way.
I have more than one and when a part comes in I write the group number,
figure page number and part item number on the package for example;
07-11-15. This would be group number "7"; exploded figure page 11; and
part number 15. This sure helps me in locating parts during reassembly.

I hope this helps you out in some way.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies!!

These are some very good suggestions, Although I'm not near that well organized. I think I'll give it a try.
As you can probably tell, I kind of on the lazy side and was looking for a way not to have to look up all those part numbers.

Oh well, time to dig the numbers up!!

Thanks again,

Ron
