Farmall Cub

I recently traded a guy some work on his hardware store for a 1947 farmall cub. He had the motor rebuilt, and tore the rest of the tractor apart so as to paint it. As with many people, he just got burned out.

I've started the rust removal process, and after working 4 hours on one wheel, am starting to feel the same way. Overall, the unit is in excellent shape, however, it's going to take a lot of work to get it where I'll be happy with the outcome (I'm a perfectionist).

I'm new to the site, and after reading some posts, looks like it's an excellent source of information. I'm in need of a battery box (w/lid), tool box, and mesh grille. The grille I have is not in too bad of shape, but if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right. Anyone have any good places to get this stuff?

A good source is Carter and Gruenwald. http://www.cngco.com
They are an IH dealer. Be careful with a lot of after market stuff if you are picky. Most of the reproduction battery boxes are junk and look like it from across the field. You can still buy OEM boxes from C&G or your local IH dealer.

There is lots of stuff - info, manuals, tips, tricks, and words of wisdom from some of the communities real pros, way too much to mention.

As is normal for me - I always mention this - read the Attention New Members and Guest sticky on this forum. It will provide a lot of information.

One thing I can address is the work load. I am in the process of restoring Jethro my second Cub. And you are right, there is a lot of work in doing a good job, starting with stripping away all the years of use/abuse dirt and crud. I enjoy my hobby and I do not want to get burned out and many others here agree with that point of view.

To that end, we are all trying to find ways to work quicker, smarter and with less pain and frustration.

Check out the link on the server Electrolysis or Rust Zappers. Then build a tank. I just took the front bolster out of the tank today - wow! talk about impressive.

After you have digested that info, let us know. There are a few different versions and some work better than others. Ask and I am sure you will get input on what type of tank to make.
