Scruffy's transformation

Postby George Willer » Sat May 22, 2004 9:38 am

Scruffy is now ready to meet all comers in the pulling contest at Cub Fest 2004. He's as ugly as ever, but has become a snarling beast! Engine re-built, clutch, brakes, one final drive, all four wheels, charging system, and working lights.... and one surprise!

Give up? It's the carburetor.

Here's a close-up. This little carburetor began life on a 2 HP briggs & Stratton engine on a two wheeled garden tractor. I made the adaptations some time ago, and finally decided to use it on Scruffy. He doesn't run any differently than he did with the IH carb. I did notice a slight loss of power when pushing a full blade of stone in 3rd gear... maybe reduced fuel flow?

The tires look the same to me but I was wundrin?,__ George, Is the brand/make of that carb a "Marvel"?. Glad to see you have not made any drastic changes & that Scruffy is staying in Character with his old/same self.
Then came Bronson

CB,

I may have lost count, but I think this is the 6th different set of front wheels for Scruffy. They're not lawn/garden tires... they're flea market tires. I squandered $8 for the tires and rims. Scruffy liked the last set... the bar type, but one blew out with a huge explosion. Those may have come from the same little tractor as the carburetor.

A little "tongue in cheek" George?? I had to get a new carb for my log splitter a few months back, it looks very similar to yours. Seems it was just over $100 new. It was a 3/4 updraft as well. I did put it next to the carb on my tractor and thought, it could be done with an adapter....and there you go.....showing it can be done.

George,

:) As well as you do everything, wasn't it a little hard for you not to paint something when you put scruffy back together?
Always try the easiest thing first.
