Bent Steering Wheel

Anybody got a technique for straightening a bent steering wheel? Mine's not too bad, maybe a half inch warp if layed flat. It's got good grip on it, I'd hate to pound on it with a hammer and crack it.
Thanks
HR

Harold: I can't help on reshaping the wheel. I am interested in this info as I have one which is badly out-of-shape. I have filled cracks with J B Weld followed by sanding, then sprayed with black gloss paint. It still looks good after a year of use. Dan

Plastidip makes their rubberized tool coating in a rattle can. gives a good feel and tends to fill in those smaller cracks.
anyone have any comments on the ones available new?

Since it sounds easy enough to fill cracks, guess I should just go ahead with the hammer. A press would be handy.

How about trying to put the bent section in a vice between a couple 2X6 boards?. Just a thought if you have no access to a press.

Art, we have a couple of new steering wheels here, you can have a look when you're at the cubfest.
