Farmall Cub

The radiator overflow is missing on my tractor.
What is it made of?
Where can I buy one?
Is it suppose to be brazed on?
Does anyone have a picture to show how it is routed?
Into the restoration product on a 49 Cub.

Suggest you have a look at the TC-37F Parts Manual as well as the GSS-1411 Service Manual. The answer to your question will be found within the pages of those manuals.

I would also suggest that you go to Binder Books and order the Owners Manual, TC-37F Parts Manual and the GSS-1411 Service Manual. These are indispensable to the Cub Owner.

The tube is made of brass and is soft soldered to the radiator in several places at the top. It is routed down the right side of the radiator and there's a bracket at the bottom that secures the bottom of the tube.

Donny or others..... Has anyone ever installed a tank on the overflow tube like they have on cars?? I thought about doing this due to the normal coolant level about 2" below the cap, but hesitate in fear of messing with the thermosiphoning system. I know to leave well enough alone, but just thought I'd ask ..... and what are your thoughts on this.

Ron, I tried it once. It kept running a cycle of pushing coolant into the tank and then sucking it back in while I was mowing. When I finished mowing and shut down I could hear a boiling sound coming from the engine. I took the tank off and threw it away.

It wouldn't be exactly original, but the later replacements had a hose (clear plastic?) that slipped over a stub on the neck.

If it's not a job you want to tackle yourself, any radaitor shop should be able to install a replacement tube of soft copper without removing the radiator from the tractor.

Sometimes we think just because these tractor are so called "OLD" they didn't work well. The designs of these old things are very soild and in most cases work very well. Remember the old saying "KISS".

And thanks to the moderator for pointing to all the other resources available at this site. The 49 was my dad's tractor. He had a dream to get the International line: Cub, A, B, C, H and M and restore them. I remember at one point as a young man he had them all in various unfixed state. When he retired and moved to NC, I bought the little plot and got the Cub in the purchase. That was in 1988. Since then it has pulled logs from the woods for firewood and pulled the wagon for the annual hayride. The Cub attracts attention from the young and old.
As it goes, a friend is going through a horrible divorce and is desparate for cash since the soon to be ex is taken most of his paycheck. He is a diesel mechanic so in a kinda charity deal I hired him to work on the Cub.
So we have 3 winnings: He gets to hang with me drink beer and fix the tractor, I get to hang out in the garage and learn about the tractor. In the end I should have a shining 49 cub.
