Having trouble installing fan pulley

I tried a threaded rod with some washers and a nut and got it on about half way and the thrads started stripping. Any tips? Do I need to have a threaded rod made out of harder material?

I guess I'll try heating it up like Donny said in this thread and use the same zinc threaded rod.

Success! I heated it up to 220 like Donny said and I also put wd40 on the shaft and threaded rod threads as well as using a stonger nut and washer.

Steve, I was trying to reply to you and either my computer or the forum was hanging up. Yes, heat is the answer as you now know!

Ha Ha Thanks Donny! I obviously was to anxious to wait for an answer. Luckily I found your thread! I also used what I had to push in the pulley. It was the slotted bar that was part of the puller I bought from Grainger to use with the bearing seperator to take the pulley off.

Steve,

Glad you got the pulley back on without using a trailer hitch.   It may have been a challenge to get it on but I know it wasn't as bad as taking it off. We're all looking forward to seeing your Cub running again :!:
