Leaking Steering Seal!

Postby David C » Mon Apr 19, 2004 12:59 pm

I was wondering how do I replace the input seal on the steering gear box? How do I get the worm gear off if needed, or does the steering wheel and 55 years of rust and paint have to come off?

Thank You all in advance!! David C.

P.S. Any Idea for a part # for the seal
I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands

David,

In order to replace the seal the steering wheel needs to come off. Use plenty of KROIL or PB Blaster on the wheel and shaft and find a good puller.

David, before you change the seal, check the fluid level. The small pipe plug is where you check it. If it's overful drain and replace.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Thanks Donny, and John.
John: I just changed the oil in the gear box to the middle plug...
