I'm back! Found out via answer machine that the IH dealer can't repair my carb. I looked thru several pages tonight and I must be overlooking the info, because I thought I had recently read the prices of carbs. Once again, can anyone give me an approximate price of a carb from a IH dealer? Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob

I've seen new IH Farmall Cub carbs selling on Ebay for between $117 and $153.

I'm not sure that "new" IH carbs are still available for the cub from Case/IH. Maybe Bermuda Ken can jump in and let us know. You can get a Zenith, this requires a new hose that replaces the pipe to the air cleaner, it is bigger on one end than the other to adapt to the carb. The hose is availablefrom from Case/IH. This link is for example only, I have never delt with this company so I don't know how good they are (scroll down below the FORD stuff):

mltiema, Daniel H, Thanks for the response. I kind of figured it would be up there. I was hoping to stay away from the Zenith if I could. No special reason. Bob

Bob:

Did you get hold of Jamie over at JP Tractor Salvage? or Lynn over at Tm Tractor Parts?

They should have good used IH carbs that just need a rebuild kit. That way you have an IH without paying a fortune. Just a thought....

beware new carbs

I purchased a "new carb" online(ebay) for my Ford 8N and after months of pulling my hair out trying to get that tractor to run right, I finally purchased a used original carb, bolted it on straight out of the box and all of my troubles went away in an instant.

The seller did refund my money, but not the shipping cost

Beware the "new carbs", I would try a used cub carb first.

Hey Bob, I've owned my Cub for about 7-8yrs now and mine had the Zenith on it when I bought it. Don't have any real experience with the IH carb. I can tell you they run great with the Zenith though. Starts right up and no teasing the choke to keep it running in the coldest weather either. In later yrs IH started using the Zenith on the C60 engine. Unless your wanting the original look I wouldn't be afraid of the Zenith. I've been told by a couple of people that it is a superior carb and doesn't warp at the flange like the IH.

WKPoor, Thanks for the input on the Zenith. I haven't had a chance to study it, but sounds as if I should be. Thanks, Bob
