Woods v. IH Mowing Deck

Hello again, and thanks for the good advice.

I'm still considering mowing decks.

I have found a nice '53 with a 46" (top deck width) IH mower installed and all linked up to the touch control..ready to go. I guess this is the mower that was designed to be the Cub accessory, and the mower I'de like to have since its more of an original thing...but only if it will cut as nice as the Woods 42.

Can anybody comment on which deck would give a better cut, and the advantages or disadvantages of each type. Is the Woods 42" or the IH deck easier on the tractor?

The mower on the '53 is yeller...shouldn't it be that red color??

Thanks

Mike

I have a Woods 42 mounted on my 53 Cub. My Buddy and I found an IH 42 for his 62 Cub. I have mowed with both and they both seem equal to me. The belts even interchange.

The quality of the cut depends almost completely on how well the mower is maintained.

As Jim posted, maintnance is the mainstay.

I have a Woods 42" on the sixty something and the sharpness of the blades along with the correct tension on the belt and proper lubrication
makes for less load on the tractor and less vibration. I also have some
older IH types and I find the same to be true with them. Though I have
not done it I think you could put the two side-by-side in a field and you
could not tell the difference in the cuts assuming all things equal.

Thanks and definately understand about maintenance. I think the IH deck will be my choice.

Do you know if the blades are interchangeable, does Case still sell blades?

The blades on my Woods 42 and IH are not the same. My local IH dealer
sells the Woods I know bought a set last year $42.00. I would think that
if they sell blades for Woods they surely sell blades for their own mowers.

Someone else may know more about this but wasn't some (if not all) of th IH mowers made by sun master (also known as kub klipper)? If so and the IH mower is one of these then blades are almost impossable to find!

Sun master was bought by pennington I beleve, and they still produce some 60" mowers and parts but nothing for the 42".

Also does eather of the mowers have a overrunning clutch?

The IH labeled mowers were made by DANCO. The Sun Master, Pennington, Continental, Kub Klipper, ect brands were all aftermarket mowers.

The Woods 42 and IH C-2 mowers do look similar, but they are very different parts wise. Thier blades do not interchange.

Ok, I knew they were made by someone else.

My nephew has a sun master and has a heck of a time finding blades.
