Farmall Cub

My Cub had a 42 Woods on it when I bought it but I had been trying to sell it for some time with no luck. Anyway it had been sitting out covered for 3 years and I decided yesterday to give it a try. Wow. It only cuts a 42 inch swath but it is much smoother than my lawnmower. And that's with dull blades. It's a heavy rascal but not too hard to mount. Thinking I might just get rid of my riding mower and use the money to restore a couple of implements. I was very impressed with it as a mower. Since the blades articulate, is the Woods 42 capable of light bush hogging?

I use my woods 42 for everything from finish cut lawn to bush hogging down 4' briars in the back pasture.

It's very usefull as a all around mower. The trick is setting the height of the deck. The thicker the grass or weeds the higher the deck. Also in heavy grass you can take-off the left side sheild and grass will come out both sides and not clog up the deck. Sometimes in heavy grass it may take two cuts to get it where you want the height. Keep the blades sharp - its worth the time and much less strain on the Cub.

Last weekend I cut about 1/2 mile of fence row grass and weeds and then cut briars and weeds in about 2 ac. of open ground. No problems - went right through and left a clean cut.

I have a Woods 42 mounted on my 53 Cub. Mine also cuts better than my wife's riding mower. I use mine to cut everything from the yard to some brush that is probably too large, but it does a very good job. It is also much better on uneven rough ground that I have on my 13 acres. The riding mower doesn't do well on uneven ground.

I also have a Woods 42 on a sixty something CUB it is just plain hard to
beat. I have cut small willow and sweet gum sprouts, blackberry briars,
grass and weeds as high as the rear wheels [raised to max height of
course] and the yard it handles it all.

My 42 Woods does a beautiful job on grass. I also use it on tallllll weeds and briars. I have it set up to throw out of both sides. I have to keep it wery slow in the tall stuff. Dont want to over work the '47.

I have a woods 42 on my 48 Cub, My brother (who lives next door) has a Cub lowboy 154 with the 60" finish mower. You can't tell where he stops mowing and I start!

I love the mower deck except that the clutch has begun to slip on it a bit to often. The "ramps" in the clutch are worn and I think I need to re-build it.

Any suggestions? or is it got to the woods dealer time and pay!!

Also anyone know the size/length of the belt and a cheap source?

Welcome to the board Dave! Sounds like it's time for a clutch rebuild on the mower. As far as the belt goes, your Woods dealer can fix you up with that too. They're not cheap, but the cheap belts do not hold up.
