I have come to understand that Cubs, or the love of Cubs, creates a never ending battle-or-process.
I put off taking off the hood untill I had to to change the head gasket. Well, the head came off, and I still had a wrench in my hand, soooo----- off came the breather to clean it up. Well, with the breather off the generator looked dirty too, so off it came. Well, the wires on the voltage regulator--off it came and look at all that dirt. Soooo I could clean it better if I took the fan off, which means the fan guard came too, which means the side wings had to come off to get to those litte bitty flat head screws that are rusted in. UGH......
Well I am still waiting for the head gasket so I thought I would get a little rattle can paint to spiffy things up a bit. found tractor primer, found IH red, found black and found red high temp. So now everything is wire brushed, degreased, primered and painted.
Well, that pretty generator would make the distributor look bad, soooo...... At this rate I am going to paint the whole tractor if that head gasket don't get here soon.
Aint life good?

Now you see why we all dread taking off the hood.
Maybe there should be a caution label attached to all hoods warning of the consquences.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

My sentiments exactly... That is why the hood MUST STAY ON the tractor... NOT... I have become an "expert" at taking the hood off!! (and perhaps only that!)

I think the sponsors have a racket, well, not an intentional one. You take it apart, find out what you need and order it. While you are waiting for the delivery, you find other things you need. You order them and while you wait................ It is like the song that never ends, it goes on and on my friends...........

That's why I'm afraid to take the hood off mine just yet.

Re: never ending battle
I've had the hood off one of mine for better than 2 years, just now have it stripped (along with everything
else). I have 4 more to do At this rate, I'm wondering if I'll live long enough to get ALL the hoods
back on all the Cubs

Re: never ending battle
When I bought my 47 the goal was just to get it to run. Several months later I had cleand and repainted every piece on the tractor as well as replace or rebuild a few thing. That upside was I had a great time.

We all love pulling that hood. Just wait until you get it painted and have to pull the hood.
