how do i clean the filter piece on top of the dip stick, or do you replace it thanks

Soak it in a solvent like kerosene etc. After soaking a while, a couple rinses in fresh solvent will leave it in pretty good shape.

I had good results by turninig it upside down and spraying carb-cleaner in it and let it soak a few minutes then dumped it out. Then resprayed till clean. (El-Cheapo) carb spray from Wal-Mart.
