My '49 rolls out of the shop everytime a snow flake hits the ground!
With about 300' of drive to clear, I'm getting lots of time on it. The '67 Loboy on the other hand is a project in progress, but you can bet that one won't be settin' around idle once it's ready to "show" or "go".

My '61 Cub is a working tractor on 3+ acres. I plow and disk three gardens and plow the driveway in winter plus whatever else I need it for through the course of the year. It is used less than 200 hrs/yr. I learned to drive on a new '49, then we traded for a new '53 with hydraulic and 8" tires and I bought the '61 about '76 from a neighbor who had bought it new. I have a plow, disk, blade, cultivators, sickle bar mower, rear carrying platform, and belt pulley attachment which has never been used. Having been around one for over 50 years I cannot imagine not having a Cub. Oh yes, I have a furrower which mounts on the cult. rockshaft arms and had Jim B scratching his head 'till I was able to post a picture and he IDed it as an A attachment; but, it fits perfect on the Cub.

My 48 is pretty much a show tractor, although I did use it this year to saw up a couple cords of fire wood.

my '48 is going to get the C3 mower from the '50 and remain as a working tractor.
Primer Pete the '50 will be show / parade because i spent too much time and $ to mess it up.
so, one for show and one for go! :) but you never know when another one might follow me home

My 57 Loboy is a worker. Plows; pulls the disc for the garden. Clears the drive (and three neighbors too) of snow; and the last two mowing seasons got used 6 hours a week with the C-3 finish mower making the yard look good.

It doesn't look too bad either. Got new tires at all 4 corners now too. Mine has been in a parade/show or two.

Sadly, mine will be going up on ebay soon. Back problems from auto crash continue to worsen and doc says STAY OFF! I have spinal surgery coming up which will fuse five vertebrate together, making the rides on the Cub even more dangerous for me. I can't see trying to teach my wife and 2 young adult kids 2 decades of "old tractor safety".
If you don't grow up around this stuff it's real easy to get in a pickle or worse.
On these ole tractors the only safety 'device' is the operator.

So, the 5 1/2 acres to mow here will get cut with a new zero-turn. Got one the tail end of last fall as a new model demo with just 9.8 hours on it.
It's got a 72" deck and should cut the mowing time to about 2 hours! I may get to use it if the doc okays it...I got the air seat....too cool! Otherwise, I get to watch my family take care of that chore for me.

K Mike, might as well put in me 2 cents worth. :)

Ellie-Mae is a 48 and is definitely a working tractor. My wife Emilie would kill me if it wasn't

She plows snow, plows the garden, cultivates, harrows and hauls my loggin wagon bringing in my firewood. This summer she is going to be mowing up a storm, and hauling the spray wagon and the water wagon to keep the dust down on my road as well as doing finish grading on my driveway.

She has to pay her way! Once Jethro gets restored, he too will also be a working tractor. No play for Hanger Queens here.

Both my cubs ('48 & '55) are working tractors (Not professionally). My problem is I worked them too hard - almost to the point of abuse. From cutting down corn stalks with a woods 59 to pulling stumps...... learned my lesson, though. They both need lots of work. Have been using them gingerly for the last few years. Waiting for nice weather to work on them.

Most of the use is grass cutting. Use cultivators, plow/grader occasionally.

I worked with a diary farmer when I was 6, he had 20 cows and a cub. When I bought my 2nd house in '82 there was a '49 cub under the porch, and I said I would only buy if the cub came with, so it did. I have done a lot of work on it to keep it running since then, it is in great shape now but not restored. I use it to plow snow, pull a trailer around my 3 acres, and occasionally some work with the brush hog. After I build the barn perhaps I can do some painting on it and make it look nice as well.

My turn to weigh in.

My 55 is used for plowing snow, light grading and moving things around the property. 49-2 is sitting out back, I'm hoping some of the Oregon moss will transplant itself to the shed.

49-1 is working me :!: :!:

My '57 Cub is a working tractor, I cut our yard 1+ acre and ocassionally touch up the pastures (we usually use the H with a bushhog for this chore).

My cub is a working tractor but semi retired from how hard it worked when my uncle had her years ago. It pulls just about every cart my dad has on his place and it discs behind my dads old JD when we plow in the spring and as soon as I get the 100 spreader done It will be on manure duty with its loader and the spreader. Both Cubs have been working tractors. Mostly gardening and grading. The '56 was used to saw wood and plant (both IH & Cole). Don't know how many hours, but not as many as I'd like.

Wow, did this question generate interest. I plow in the winter, mow in the summer, so I guess you have to call it a working Cub. The only thing is, it doesn't seem like work. Can you work and still have fun? Even a couple of hundred hours a year?

My cub is also a worker.
I use it as much as possible for plowing snow, pulling a small cart, grader work and it will be plowing all day this spring at our plow days. I have a sicle bar for it and am in the process of looking for a house, who knows, maybe I can get a field that needs mowed!
