Crispy Cub comes home

Postby Bigdog » Tue Mar 23, 2004 3:27 pm

Picked up my crispy parts tractor today. Hope I can salvage my $150 worth of parts off it. The link will take you to the album with several pics. The picture posted is of the grill on the tractor it's in perfect condition, no dents or gouges.

I don't think it's original. That's a shame because it is in perfect condition. No dents or gouges anywhere in it.

Big Dog: If your thinking about selling any of crispy's parts, I am in the market for some final drives for my "49" sweety. Just let me know some prices and we will go from there. Hope all is well with you and yours.

B.D., It still looks good even though an odd one. I would paint it and use or sell it. For those like me who posed the mesh pattern question it serves a great conversation piece.__ Like where did you get that grille?. "MADE-IT"

Bigdog,

That's a good find you have there. Enjoyed the pictures! I can see $150 several times in that tractor.

I agree, you oughta think about keeping it like that. The 'melting candy bar' look has a cartoon-like appearance that projects a lot of character. Even down to the wobbly rims! Do you know how much internal damage there is from the heat?

The sheet metal, rims, and front axle will be damaged the most. As long as there is any oil remaining inside a gear box, the damage will be mostly to the seals. Until the oil is gone, the temperature will stay under 500F, well under the 700+ required to change heat treat.

The front axle under my one project tractor is from John !#$%^'s burn victim. It sagged badly from the heat but I straightened it. To straighten it cold required more than 30,000 pounds of force! That tractor is named "Bud" for the previous owner.

Scruffy is worried about falling back to third place.

"That tractor is named "Bud" for the previous owner".

Before anyone asks, that cub did not belong to me. I think Crispy would be a nice addition to the Cub-Arama this year.

Hey Bigdog....are you up to the job :?: Maybe you should post a poll and take votes on the fate of Crispy.

This thing is pretty sad. The oilpan is dry and it appears the drive train is also frozen. To refurbish it will require total dis-assembly and rebuild from the ground up. Most likely, this is not feasable. If I did do it, I might as well restore it since it would be that far down anyway. What's amazing is that the gas tank didn't blow. It boiled the gas and it blew out the vent, spraying the tractor which didn't help matters. The sheet metal looks great but I don't know how it will hold up when I start fooling with it.

As far as an ugly cub contestant goes - I got one in hiding in the barn that is a definite contender. I just didn't want to overwhelm Scruffy & Timex with a real ugly cub! :)
