Auction remorse not buyers remorse

Postby Keith L » Tue Apr 08, 2008 9:22 am

I went to a consignment auction last Sunday. I porpously did not bring my trailer because I already have 10 Cubs. Why would I ever need another if there was one there. Well there was. A beautiful Red '76. I have never even seen a late model except in books. Looked like it never sat outside. The fast hitch even had the pull bar extension on it. Sickle mower with 4 extra cutting blades and a set of extra guards. Perfect snowplow and dirt plow. This would be a 12 volt system with 15 HP engine tractor. There were 2 guys bidding on it and they started to balk at $1900. It sold for a measly $2000 and I'm pretty sure I could have got it for $2100 and definitly less than $2500. But I didn't jump in and I'm still kicking myself for not having it home with me.

Keith,

Are you saying $2000 for the whole package or just the Cub?

That would have been one heck of a deal. About $1,000 under-priced with a fast hitch and sickle in that condition.

That was for everything. I just can't believe I didn't buy it.

My heart goes out to you, but with 10 cubs you do have quite the collection, and someone new has joined the cub world.

It's water under the bridge now. Who knows what the final price would have been if you entered the bidding. Maybe $2100, maybe $5K - no telling how the other bidders would have reacted if you jumped in at the last minute. Sniping only works with eBay, not a real live auction. Bummer!

not taking a trailer to an auction is standard for me. matter of fact i usually ride the scooter so i don't have to walk half a mile when i get near as i can. just ride right up the driveway and find a tree to lean it against. then if i have the misfortune of not being able to live another day without something i come back when the crowd thins. the last cub i bought was hauled to the house by the same guy i was bidding against.
