more problems!

Postby LARRY BALL » Mon Apr 07, 2008 9:03 am

yesterday i mounted new alternator. Cub has been sitting over a year. Overhauled distributor, installed pertronix electronic ignition, new "hot" coil, cap, rotor, plugwires, hotter spark plugs. put #1 cylinder on top dead center, aligned timing mark. Placed rotor on #1 mounted cap wire postive wire to coil, ran hot wire to + side of ignition switch. then mounted temporary fuel supply. cable on battery, a little choke "AND SHE FIRED RIGHT UP!" :{_}: Hooray :!: :{_}:
I'm a Cub mechanic   ..(learned all these things at "TEXAS TUMBLE".)

But last years carb overhauled failed  The thing drips fuel so fast :censored: :censored: . Could it be a piece of trash under the needle and seat? or incorrect float setting? Also, after it ran for 15 minutes and the engine temperature got up I attempted to increase engine rpm. But when I got near 3/4 to full throttle the govenor gave this awful sound of non-meshing gears, like when your clutch has failed :!: I only tried it one more time with the same results. Looking for some suggestions???????? Larry :big smirk:

if the little "c" clip comes off the end of the governor shaft, then the flyweights can extend far enough to hit the case.

Larry,
Sounds like a warped top on your carb. Probably needs to be flattened ala the how to page :!:

Sounds like it is time to pull the governor out and give it a looking over. My carb drips fuel sometimes. I think it will be time for a rebuild after the governor timing gets set and the mag is on.

Larry,
We rebuilt the carb on our '68 LoBoy at Cecil's Minifest in February. Tractor ran great but carb leaked like an old boat. Discovered that the compression ring for fuel line at the inlet nut was pancaked and not sealing properly. I have a new inlet nut coming from TM and hope to have the leak resolved this weekend.

well the carb. is a zenith. the dripping part is coming from the underside of the throat thru what appears to be a screen. so the bowl isn't leaking but fuel keeps leaking from the front where the air intake tube connects. any more ideas???

Float may be sticking or full of gas. Needle valve and seat may be leaking. Did you replace the needle and seat when it was rebuilt? If so, did you put some sealant on the backside of the seat?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I have 2 zeniths, some weeks they leak, some weeks they don't. Try taking the bowl off and cleaning the float and valve seat and put back together. I also use a big no no. Tap with a hammer (not reccomended but works) I advise useing a dead blow, metal hammer dings up the carb pretty bad.
