Carb Gas Line Fittings

Am I correct that the gas line inlet on the carb should have 1/2-13 threads? I got new fittings from Tom at TM. The measurement is a little off for 1/2-13 and a new 1/2-13 nut will start, but will bind after about one turn. It will probably go on with a little persuasion, but I don't want to mess up the thread before it is even on the carb.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Bigdog. I'll gently try a 1/2-20 nut. But, the measurement on the fittings was closer to 1/2-13 than 1/2-20.

But I was wrong once before.

Are the threads intact? Someone may have threaded a pipe fitting in there. That's why so many carbs need the helicoil in the inlet.

That's exactly what has happened. There is a 1/4" npt fitting with a nipple on the end for a rubber hose. But, before I helicoil it, I want to make sure that I have the right fitting.

Right again Bigdog! The threads are 1/2-20. I re-tapped it with a 1/2-20 plug tap. A 1/2-20 bolt goes in ok and seems to tighten enough. Don't know if the gas line will seal until I try it with the new fitting. Here is TN, we call that a "fittin". Like we are fixin to install a fittin and tighten it with a ranch!
