Thrust clearance options

Postby bob in CT » Tue Apr 01, 2008 8:53 pm

I have not checked this yet, but I am curious. If the thrust clearance on the crank exceeds the spec, what are the options? Are there bearings that at oversized to take up the gap? Or does the crank need to be built up and machined?

I think I'll put the crank back in and measure it before I do anything else...

Bob

New set of main bearings. Normally new main bearing inserts take up - correct the thrust clearance. Thrust washers are available for some applications to take up any excess clearance. I did not see any listed in the Cub parts manual.

The flanges of the thrust bearings are babbit faced - and erode much more rapidly than the sides of the bearing journal.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thanks Eugene. I expect it will be OK, but I have come too far not to be thorough.
