I found a Hit & Miss The other day that I aquired, It is all there, but froze up. The guy said that it run untill it sat for so long. I have herd many of you talk about yours over the years, and would like your input on restoring this old IH, Thanks in advance "Jack"

I don't have a hit & miss engine, but I always found them fascinating. We had one on a cement mixer on the farm when I was young. Thing would set for 2-3 years and start right up. Some day I'll find a cheap one! Good luck in getting yours running.

No dout you'll find one This one was used on the farm to pump water into the sistern. I suppose when the wind wasn't strong enough to power the wind mill or just replaced it. I've always wanted one as well but not knowing one from another, I never bought. I saw this was "IH" so I felt a little parcial. I red on the board here where one guy dismantled his and did the soda clean, I wandered how that worked." Jack"

I'm no expert on hit-n-miss engines, but my Dad has quite a collection, mostly Fairbanks, so i'm a bit familiar with their operation.
I tell him that I only collect things i can ride on, not have to drag on the trailer
Seems that the IH engines rank high on the 'collectability' and sought after list. Good for you
Coolsprings PA, has a large spring show of hit-n-miss engines and a large collection of equipment on site. Terriffic show, i plan on going. Very interesting seeing the development of ignition systems from that period.

if the water tank and head is intact and not cracked, you're way ahead. and if you have the ignition mechanism, that's a large plus, they can get pricey.
