bite the bullet
Yesterday I belted Glenda to the grist mill and ground about 25 # of corn. She starts right up and runs fine. Problem is she leaked 1/2 qt. of oil and is smoking much more. So I finally admitted that she needs an overhaul. I am going to read every post before starting the job. My question is when she is split is there other things that are routinely done besides the engine? I guess now is the time. Thanks

Dan, you may want to change the throw out bearing and clutch while you have it apart. You didn't mention where the oil was leaking from if it is on the front of the engine you may want to replace the seal behind the pulley. If the transmission is noisy some new bearings in the transmission may be in order and a slide collar for the PTO if the PTO shaft is showing some wear.
