How dangerous is this?
OK, so the cub is in the barn--far from the house with its running water (We're pretty advanced now here in Alabama!). The gas tank-hood is at a tractor shop waiting to be painted. Now, I need to get the cub to the house so I can hook up a pressure washer to attack the grease. I've rigged up something to get gas to the carb. It's a big coffee can, with a plastic lid. I stuck a brass nipple through the bottom of the can. Used a nut, epoxy and a rubber washer. It holds water. No leaks. I put a brass nipple on the carb. And I have a 5' fuel hose to slip on both nipples. I plan to duct tape the can to something on the cub. To go less than 1/10 of a mile, think the thing will catch fire and incenerate me?

I've seen worse! Just put a minimal amount of gas in the can and take it easy. Just out of curiosity, what size threads were on the brass nipples? The carb inlet threads are 1/2 - 20 - not pipe thread.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Charles,
I doubt most of what we do is OSHA approved, but we do most of our stuff with care. Your system is one I've used except my brass nipple was soldered to the can. Fords are like Cubs... the tank comes off with the hood. I've made a few other pony tanks since, but here's proof your idea can work.

Go for it.
I once had to move a truck that had no gas. So me and my buddy had an idea. Instead of lugging the 5 gal can a quarter mile, we just brought a squirt bottle.. I opened the hood and got comfy. My buddy jumped in the drivers seat. I squirted away as he drove up to the house. Worked good.

Thanks, I feel better. I would love to see someone drivel a tractor with a squirt bottle! From a safe distance. I got the fittings from Lowes and threw away the packaging, so I do not know the size. I just tried them till something fit. It went on pretty easy, with no forcing (And I used teflon tape from NAPA).

I'm really not sure about the topic or quality of this subject. Actually I have a problem with this subject. Unless it's there's got to be a better, safer method of temporarily fueling you tractor.
There have been and are much better examples of temporary fuel tanks on this board.

Right now I have a old lawn mower tank mounted on the cub to run it when the hood is off. Also it has a shut off on it.

There are two different issues here. If you're referring to the squirt gun I agree. The other method depends on how carefully it's done and mounted.

Hey Charles, like Bigdog and George said, if it is a very short distance go for it. I would prefer towing it some how but you do what you gotta do. I have done dumber things.
Keep in mind though, If something should go drasticly wrong, we like pictures.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Charles, not that your coffee can won't work, but there are two great posts on the How To page about making and mounting pony tanks. Might come in handy if you plan on future repairs to future Cubs.

Thats exactly the same mefhod I use for running the Cub with the hood off. I made a bracket to mount it to a top bell-housing bolt for temporary use on all my Cubs.
Then came Bronson
