Good Voltage regulators

Postby Shotgun_13601 » Mon Dec 17, 2007 5:46 pm

I need to find a good "US Made" regulator. TM is closed until the 28th and the regulator from TSC in Gramp's tractor doesn't work right.

I'm open to suggestions..

Unfortunately, these days "Made in the USA" doesn't mean much. :(

If price is no consideration, I have somewhere contact information with a fellow who builds solid-state regulators that will fit in your old housing. He will adjust it to match the original voltage and amperage specifications of your generator and install it in your housing. I have never used his regulator, but have heard good comments about him from others. I can search for the contact info if desired. I suspect that with postage, the cost might be about $100.00. Do not give me credit if your experience with this supplier is good nor blame me if it is bad. He told me he is an electronic engineer and this is a sideline for him. I do know that voltage regulators are very simple electronic devices, but one for handling this many amperes involves some more costly components. A good one will be far superior to any original electro-mechanical regulator. As you know, many of the electronic components are made "offshore".

I know what you mean buy wanting one in the good old US, I just spent a day checking 4 new ones on 3 different tractors, the 2 foreign ones did'nt work right on either tractor the 2 US work fine on all 3, I was lucky I got one from JD the other from NAPA like David said, but the next one you get may not be :(

like others said NAPA, they have 2 or more the cheap one is like 35 or soo made in china, they have one for 65 or 70 that i belive is US made. I looked into that myself, i went with the china one on a H, no trouble soo far.... but theres gotta be a diffrence between the two.

I also have purchased the cheaper one from Napa last summer. I use my Cub weekly for about an hour and have had good luck with it.

Good Regulators

Postby calcub » Tue Dec 18, 2007 3:31 pm

I just purchased a new 6v US made regulator from my local parts house. Napa had this one available also. About $60.

I posted pictures of the box and numbers on the cubfest host in an album titled "USA made Voltage Regulator" but am unable to get them linked to this post. Perhaps someone else can assist.
