BD I saw that to but thought it was someone being a little rough on it. And nope neither one of ours are like that. I wonder if it was something special for grading allowing you to pitch dirt more to the right!!!

With that grill, the tractor is virtually worthless. I would be willing to take it off of your hands at no charge. To show you what a great guy I am, I would even consider splitting the cost of shipping with you!

my first thought was loboy also... but this plow has no spring..and loboy didnt come out till 55, well into 54A plows. or am i wrong in thinking that the non-spring early plows were superceded by the more forgiving 54A spring type?

They should be easy enough to straighten using a hydraulic jack and a chain. 8)

Now I know what you meant when you described the grill. Someone worked hard on that grill.. Does this make it a hybrid, like a Westinghouse ReCuberator? :D

If you run out of storage space I have some over here.

Nice find!

I like the white accents :) (headlights/wheel weights/multi,multi bar grille). Nice find, even if you didn't think you needed it

had some shop time, so i thought i'd see if this cub would come back to life.

no spark, so i touched up the points, put gas in it, a battery, and gave it a go.....

nothing.....and it doesn't sound right cranking over.....so... off with the hood :!: :!:

compression test next.....75 - 50 - 50 - 80....that not good..what i can visually see in the spark plug holes looks decent and normal. head bolts have been replaced and show an older repaint, same as the head.
stuck rings maybe, or plumb wore out..

but it'll have to wait a little.. the little Hough HA loader is in front of my bench - and will start after the carb and gas tank get cleaned.

My yellow and white had the same grille when I bought it! That's one of the reasons it's called the Ugly Duckling, but Ralph fixed me up with the right grille.
I sold off all of my bent abused plow frames and kept the nice straight ones.

that dead cub kept calling out for attention so.......

i rolled it next to the Hough HA so it was close to the bench, installed a pony gas tank now that the hood was off, set the timing by eye, checked the firing order and rotation of the distributer, and.........

off she went :!: :!: 8)

took her for a 'test drive around my building...it's cold out...more snow or something coming tonight........but she runs..no smoke, no crankcase blowby....governor shaft needs work - sloppy....won't idle..everything needs attention...no brakes - they are greased up good..
nuthin better than that first start....well, almost nothing :!: :!:

Called John (BlackJeep) with the news... shhhhhh..he was working on a John Deere A :!:

retested compression. 100 - 100 - 90 - 100 :)

Art,
I think that Cub is responding to being in a happy home. Good news about the compression.

Art,

Glad to hear the compression numbers came up, same thing happened with mine. When I got it from my neighbor it had been sitting for 3 or 4 years. Compression numbers were bad (50's) until after it ran. Then all of them were 90+.

As for the JD A, I have some red IH paint left over, do you think anyone will notice if I sneak it into the CubFest line up?

Sweet! That's great news Art.

If I didn't have to hobble around and the weather wasn't so bad I would try a pony tank on the new Lo Boy... didn't want to start yesterday but I didn't try too hard. I think the 'fresh' fuel would be all it takes.

MMMMMM Mr Jeep... have you found out that IH's are much easier to work on yet?? And easier to get parts for??

My friends JD doesn't run, but I could pull it with a Cub

Larry,

Boy you got that right! LOL

I almost had to disassemble the whole tractor just to take the hood off. And you know what happens when you take the hood off, regardless of manufacturer! :-)

Merry Christmas buddy, get well.

John

Oh,forgot to mention. There is NO JD forum that can hold a candle to this one. The knowledge and friendship, Cub guys are the best.

I know John... we are the best!

I can't be too hard on JD's for 3 reasons... a good friend has a mess of em (but his wife has a red M!), they are still in business, and the stock has done well for me. They are a bright spot in the economy right now.
